The North Caucasian Federal University is a federal university in Stavropol, established in 2012 on the basis of the North Caucasian State Technical University by joining the Stavropol State University and the Pyatigorsk State Humanitarian and Technological University. The Supervisory Board headed by the Governor of the Stavropol Territory Vladimir Vladimirov functions to manage the university.
It includes Artur Nikolaevich Chilingarov, Soviet and Russian oceanologist, explorer of the Arctic and Antarctic, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, First Vice President of the Russian Geographical Society, President of the State Polar Academy, President of the Association of Polar Explorers, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor, Hero of the Soviet Soyuz, Hero of the Russian Federation, Yury Yuryevich Balega, Russian astrophysicist, vice-president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, laureate of the USSR State Prize in the field of science and technology. The number of scientific and pedagogical workers is more than 1.3 thousand people. The number of students is 23.7 thousand. In March 2020, the university passed the state accreditation of educational programs. The structure of the university includes 13 institutes and faculties in Stavropol and two institutes (branches) in Pyatigorsk and Nevinnomyssk.
