Samarkand State Medical University is one of the oldest medical universities in Central Asia. The university is located in Samarkand, a world-famous city that has been a center of knowledge and enlightenment for centuries. Samarkand State Medical University was established in 1930 by the decision of the Government of the Republic, 90 years ago. Throughout its glorious history, our university has come a long way to becoming one of the leading medical universities not only in Uzbekistan, but in the entire Central Asian region. In 1930, by the decision of the Council of People's Commissars of Uzbekistan No. 80 of May 7, 1930, the Uzbek State Medical Institute (UZDI) was established in Samarkand. This was a major event for the people of the Central Asian region, as there was no independent medical higher education institution in the region.

After gaining independence, the Samarkand State Medical Institute (since April 2022 - the University) has developed separately. In 1997, the country adopted the "National Training Program", in 1998, the state program of health care reform, as a result of which in 1999 the Faculty of Higher Nursing was established. The department was opened in 2001 and since 2005 the faculty of medical pedagogy, in subsequent years the faculties of dentistry, medical prophylaxis, medical biology, pharmacy and from 2020 students study in the new direction "Folk medicine" they are taking.

A new era in the history of the university began in 2005. It was necessary to create conditions for the quality of the educational process and the scientific activity of the teaching staff for the scientific product. To make student work more effective, the university has lecture and classrooms equipped with the latest information technology, multimedia projectors, video and audio systems, educational and clinical laboratories, and a distance learning system. The educational process is strengthened by modern information and communication Internet technologies using electronic and modular educational systems.
